Learning Pathways

Leadership Through Story

Learn how great leaders build trust, navigate uncertainty, and inspire others through stories from television and film.

5 learning experiences

Overview

Leadership is rarely learned in a lecture hall. It is learned by watching people make hard calls with incomplete information, then asking what you would have done. This pathway moves through five very different leaders — a coach, a president, a chef, a company of soldiers, and a flight crew — and uses each one to examine a distinct dimension of leading well.

Learning outcomes

  • Explain how trust is built, spent, and rebuilt inside a team
  • Diagnose a leadership failure by cause rather than by personality
  • Adapt your leadership approach to the pressure and stakes of the moment
  • Design a personal leadership practice you can observe and evaluate
